On Thursday November 6, 2008, MarcumRachlin Principal Mark Agulnik served as a panelist on a teleconference dealing with the challenges of conducting AS5 internal controls audits of smaller public entities.
During this teleconference, the panel of advisors from accounting and consulting firms discussed the technical aspects of AS5, guidance the PCAOB has issued on applying the principles-based approach to smaller public entities, and best practices for businesses in dealing with an AS5-compliance controls audit. Practical experiences with their clients on working through AS5 since its effective date was particularly important and valuable to the audience, which included representatives of finance departments at smaller companies.
The teleconference, had an average of 50 to 100 companies in the listening audience, which works out to 75 to 150 actual locations (a number of companies link in more than one office) and 250 to 450 participants (multiple listeners from same company).
